CASE 3

Renovation Project of a Restaurant

by IDOL Design Studio

The restaurant’s interior was created several years ago and had become morally and physically outdated. The owner wanted to make the space fresher, more modern, and open, adding more light and natural materials.

We were permitted to demolish all additional structures, shelves, and screens that divided the hall into zones. The bar was decided to remain in place, as it also has an exit from the kitchen. The restrooms were rebuilt due to previously incorrect plumbing but were kept in their existing sizes and locations.

The main hall was divided into three zones:

  • An entrance area with a wardrobe, restrooms, and refrigerators for meats and wines (the restaurant also deals in collectible wines).
  • A bar area with two large tables and soft chairs. As this is a passageway and close to the kitchen exit, it is less comfortable for visitors. We compensated for this with comfortable furniture and beautiful decorations, including custom-made lighting and floor lamps.
  • The main dining area, with seating options along the walls and individual tables for two by the windows. Square tables were used to allow for various seating configurations based on customer requests. In the centre of the hall is a stand with glasses and a display of baked goods and pastries. This divides the flow of people, creating a more intimate atmosphere for the tables along the wall. The stand is on wheels, allowing it to be moved aside to create a large table for banquets if needed.

The decor features a lot of natural wood in a complex caramel shade, decorative plaster with a sand effect, and unique volumetric wall decorations with semi-spheres. Mirrors of amorphous shapes reflect light from the windows, and there are interesting ceiling lights.

Along the windows, on the supporting wall projections, are heating radiators, which are covered with MDF boxes featuring lit slits and side lighting.

As someone who loves visiting cafés and restaurants and taking photos of myself and my friends, it was important to design each zone of the restaurant so that a person, regardless of where they chose to sit, could take a photo against an interesting interior feature. I believe this will also be a plus for the restaurant’s marketing strategy.

During the design process, I meticulously worked out each detail in 3D to understand the exact size, height, and material for each interior element. Everything was resolved and agreed upon at the 3D sketch stage, and all element parameters were discussed and approved. Thanks to this, the working drawing phase proceeded quickly without any need for clarifications or changes. The implementation and construction phase was completed on schedule.
